Getting Vaccinated Against Seasonal Flu
All people who are over the age of 65 years or, who have
particular disease risks, are entitled to be immunised annually to reduce
their chances of contracting seasonal flu and suffering complications
associated with it. For vulnerable people flu can be a very debilitating
infection and it can take several weeks to make a complete recovery. In some
cases it can cause complications including bronchitis and pneumonia, which
may need hospital treatment.
In addition
to those over 65 if you suffer from any of the following, you are entitled
to a flu vaccination.
-
Diabetes
-
Heart
disease
-
Respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic obstructive airways
disease and those of all ages with asthma and using long term inhalers.
-
Chronic
renal failure or Liver disease.
-
Those
with lowered resistance to infection
-
People
who are a main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may
be at risk if the carer falls ill.
-
Some
Neurological conditions.
-
Children up to 5 years of age who have had pneumonia in the past
If you are unsure if you are entitled please contact
the surgery and we will advise.
At Norden
House we will be starting our flu vaccination clinics in October and
if you are a patient of ours and would like to
book your appointment, would suggest you ring from September onwards.
Please do not wait to get a letter from us inviting you, just pick up the
phone and book.
We strongly recommend that you have a flu vaccination so
please contact the surgery on 01296 713434
to arrange an appointment.

NEWSFLASH FOR
ALL PATIENTS
Campaign
Success: Dispensing by Doctors will continue!
We are delighted to
inform you that on 16 December 2008 the Government announced that it will
abandon its plans to change dispensing by doctors. It was thanks to your
support that the Government changed their minds! Eighty thousand patients
and doctors across the country responded to the Government’s consultation.
It was an epic demonstration of patients voicing their views,
BEING HEARD AND LISTENED TO!
The result is that your practice and
hundreds more dispensing practices across the country will be able to
continue providing services to their patients. We want to make sure your
views continue to be heard in Government and we will continue to provide
bulletins to your surgery to keep you informed about changes that may affect
you.
The Dispensing Doctors’
Association.
THANK
YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT !

Patient Involvement Group
The Patient Involvement
Group has been meeting for three years and in that time has provided an
invaluable perspective on the work of the surgery and the development of
services at the practice.
The work of the group
involves meeting with staff at least three times a year and providing
feedback, from the Patients perspective, of:
-
New developments at the
surgery.
-
New developments within
the NHS and change flowing from this.
-
The patient experience
at the surgery.
-
The patient/lay
person’s view of customary practice at the surgery.
We
are currently seeking to recruit new members to this group.
No special qualifications
or experience are required. You just need to be prepared to talk about your
viewpoint as a patient and contribute to the work of the group.
If you feel you have a
small amount of time to give and would be interested in the work of the
Group, please contact Noel Ratcliffe, Practice Manager. Ask at reception to
speak to Noel or ring 01296 713434 or by e-mail on
noel.ratcliffe@nhs.net.

addition to what we already provide and will hopefully improve access for
those that work or simply prefer to be seen either earlier or later in the
day.
From the 1st September a Doctor and Nurse
will be seeing patients from 07.30am on Tuesday and Friday mornings and in
addition a Doctor and Nurse will be seeing patients between 6pm and 7pm on a

PLEASE NOTE
Essential Maintenance to Computer Network
Please
note that due to essential computer network maintenance we will be working
without a computer system on
Tuesday 13th May
and
Wednesday 14th May.
This work has been planned to coincide with one of our monthly ‘Training
Sessions’ scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday 13th May during
which the surgery is normally closed. We hope that most of the work will be
completed at that time thus minimising disruption; however it is likely that
work will need to continue into the following day, Wednesday 14th
May.
As we will be without computers this will affect the running of the surgery
and as a result the doctors will only be seeing emergencies on Wednesday.
We will not be booking routine appointments in advance for Wednesday and
will only deal with those patients ringing in the morning needing to see a
Doctor in an emergency.
It is likely that it will also disrupt the operation of the dispensary and
may cause some delay to the dispensing of repeat medication. Therefore
repeat prescription requests received after Monday 12th may not be ready for
collection until Friday 16th May. I would therefore recommend that if you
are due for repeat medication that week that you order one week in advance
to avoid any delays.
Apologies for any inconvenience!

New Pharmacist at Norden House
Surgery
article added 9 March
2007
To improve the services provided to
patients the practice has decided to add a Pharmacist to the team working in
the Dispensary. The management of prescriptions and the provision of
medication to patients has become increasingly complex and the
appointment of a pharmacist enables us to provide a more comprehensive
service in this area of patient care.
Alli Kumar joined us from the 5th March
2007 and will be working 4 days a week. We have asked Alli to briefly
outline what she will be providing for patients and the following is her
response:
The Pharmacist will be available to:
-
Answer queries
related to your medicines.
-
Clarify dosages
-
Discuss potential
side effects
-
Discuss potential
drug interactions that you may be concerned about. e.g. interactions with
products bought over the counter in a pharmacy and prescribed medicines.
-
Suggest aids to
assist with taking your medicines (e.g. eye drop aids/ inhaler aids/
medication reminder charts.
-
Discuss and clarify
inhaler techniques.
-
Help with your repeat
prescriptions
-
Discuss minor
ailments (e.g. coughs/ colds/ headlice/ thrush)

481 NEW PATIENTS REGISTER ON FIRST OPEN DAY
article added 18 January
2004
The first of two scheduled Open
Days saw 481 new patients being registered with the practice. The prime
purpose of the Open Day was to allow prospective patients from the closing
Horn Street Practice to register and have a look around at the facilities
and services that the practice can offer. More than 300 information packs
were handed out and the four doctors in attendance undertook a series of healthchecks on new patients.
NEW DOCTOR JOINS PRACTICE
article added 16 January
2004
The Practice is pleased to
announce the appointment of Dr Satheesh Ramasamy who will be joining in
early February. With the expanding population of Winslow and the closure of
the Horn Street Practice there has been a pressing need to appoint another
partner for the practice.

SURGERY AFTERNOON CLOSURE
article added 12 January
2004
The next Training & Development
session for Practice staff is Thursday 22 January 2004. The surgery will be
closed from 12.00pm on this date.

NEW
SURGERY
article added 10 January
2004
The Practice has been well
served by it's current location but the feeling is that
we are now outgrowing our current facilities and certainly the anticipated
growth
in number of patients to be served and the growing population of Winslow
means
that we have to relocate.
We are working with the Vale of Aylesbury District Council in looking for a
suitable site within the town boundaries. It is anticipated that this will
be a new
build development with purpose built facilities to serve the local
population for
many years. More details will be announced on our website as they develop.

OPEN DAYS
article added 28 December 2003
The Practice is holding two
Open Days in January where prospective new patients
are invited to meet the staff, learn of the services we offer and see the
facilities at
Norden House. New patients will be able to register with the Practice on
these
dates and receive their introductory healthcheck. The Practice is open to receive
visitors between 9.00am and
4.00pm on
Saturday 17th and Saturday 24th January 2004.
